Placement opportunities for students and employers

The vast majority of B&FC’s study programmes include an industry placement, which allows learners to apply their chosen subject to a work-based setting and gain valuable experience for their future career.

The College is also one of the few colleges which have been asked to work with the Department for Education on piloting a new student placement scheme, due to be rolled out in 2020 as part of the new T-levels.

The scheme will see all future T-level students complete a 45-day block industry placement during their second year of study.

For students, this presents a brilliant chance to get a taste of the world of work. But it’s also a great opportunity for businesses and employers, as you gain access to an additional resource with a fresh eye that could really impact your bottom line. The scheme is also a good way to trial someone before taking them on as an apprentice.

The subject areas involved with this trial stage of extended block placements are:

  • Business
  • IT and Computing
  • Engineering
  • Construction
  • Travel and Tourism
  • Sport
  • Childcare
  • Music
  • Graphics

Driving improvements in healthcare

New Strategic Alliance:

In 2018, the College teamed up with Lancaster University and Blackpool Council to explore ways in which to increase and improve skills in the local health and social care sector. The alliance brings together the expertise and knowledge of the three organisations, with the combination of research, training and education, and service delivery acting as a catalyst for the improved health and wellbeing of local residents.

The Health and Social Care Career Academy (HSCCA):

Another College partnership, this time with the NHS and Blackpool Council, has led to the creation of the Health and Social Care Career Academy (HSCCA) at Blackpool’s Bickerstaffe House. The Academy’s vision is to facilitate the education, training and development needs of Fylde Coast health and care providers, with a range of courses being offered to support career advancement in the sector.
