Award-winning actress Lucy Fallon is to switch on the world-famous Illuminations in her home town of Blackpool.

Lucy has won a host of TV awards for her role as Bethany Platt in ITV’s Coronation Street. She’ll pull the famous switch in front of 20,000 people at the official Switch-On concert on Friday 30 August.

Switch-On is the biggest night in Blackpool’s year-round events programme. It begins 66 nights of Illuminations in the UK’s most visited seaside resort.

Lucy studied singing, acting and drama from the age of two. She made her first public stage appearance as a dancer in pantomime at the historic Blackpool Grand Theatre.

Since joining the cast of Coronation Street in 2015 she has enjoyed a stellar rise to fame. Winning the National Television Award for Serial Drama Performance in 2018 and also Best Actress and Best Female Dramatic Performance in the British Soap Awards in the same year. In December 2017, she was tipped for West End stardom after winning ITV’s All Star Musicals competition.

The 23-year-old will now join a star-studded roster of Switch-On stars including the likes of Peter Kay, Robbie Williams, Dame Barbara Windsor, Hollywood film director Tim Burton, and last year’s celebrity, Alfie Boe.

Lucy said: “I’m so excited and honoured to be switching on the Illuminations in Blackpool this year – it’s always been a special tradition here and as a local girl it is going to be extra special this year for me and my family.”

The kids from Flakefleet join the Switch-On party

The schoolchildren who captured the nation’s heart during this year’s Britain’s Got Talent TV series are to make a guest appearance at the Blackpool Illuminations Switch-On party.

The children from Flakefleet Primary in neighbouring Fleetwood received a coveted Golden Buzzer during the auditions for the show after an infectiously joyous performance led by their headteacher, Dave McPartlin.

Although they lost out in the live final, they will go down in BGT history as the act that reduced judges David Walliams, Alesha Dixon and Amanda Holden to tears, along with much of the audience!

Now the children have been invited to take a bow in front of 20,000 people at the annual Illuminations Switch-On event on Blackpool’s Tower Festival Headland Arena on Friday 30 August.

Cllr Gillian Campbell, Deputy Leader of Blackpool Council, said: “Whilst watching the BGT final with my daughters, I was determined we would try to get the school involved in the Switch-On in some capacity.

“I am so happy they will be able to join us, and I hope they will be able to add this experience to the memories they have already created this year. I can’t wait to meet them!”

I’m doing the Ride the Lights this year, and hopefully raise some money fro a local charity. As I’m disabled myself, it isn’t as straightforward as it will be for able bodied cyclists. Can you explain what is meant by ‘support’ for breakdowns

There’s usually a ‘Bike Doctor’ available to help with punctures and bike related problems.

Hi, I’m Jasmine, a 15 year old singer songwriter training at a school in London in Musical Theatre. I’d love to perform at Blackpool Illuminations! I have been training since I was 4 years old attending musical theatre school full time since I was 10 years old. I have sung alongside Robbie Williams at the palladium and on his cd swing both ways. I released a hit on iTunes Bothered with you which is about my experience of being bullied as I have, and still get bullied. All proceeds going to Makesomenoisie. I have recently sung to the Duchess of Cornwall and at the Jimmy choo Christmas party as part of a choir.

A coach full would like to visit Blackpool illuminations in 2019 Would we all need wristbands?
Can we get into attractions without? How does this system work?

Blackpool Illuminations are free to view. Just turn up between the end of August and the beginning of November and you can see them every day during the dark hours of the evening.

There’s a page here about this years Switch On times which gives you the idea

You can pay for the individual attractions separately, or you can buy a Blackpool Resort Pass from Visit Blackpool, the official tourism department at the council. If you’re staying and want to visit them all it does work out a lot cheaper.

To visit the lights and walk or drive or cycle is free however you wish to make a donation towards the cost of running the lights, this can be done at a donation point at both the north end and also at the south end of the promenade, the wristbands are only required if you wish to be able to see the turn on,
All other attractions within blackpool can be paid for as and when you go.
If you are staying for a while you may wish to buy a big blackpool ticket which will give 1 person per ticket the best of what blackpool has to offer and this includes the following,
      The Blackpool Tower Lift
      The Blackpool Tower Dungeons
      The Blackpool Tower 4d cinema
      Blackpool Pleasure Beach Wristband
      The Blackpool Tower Ballroom.
