LightPool Festival brings the Blackpool Illuminations to life. Enjoy (and join in with) spectacles of light, fire and brilliance on the streets of Blackpool this October!
LightPool Festival – 25 – 27 October 2018
Blackpool Illuminations shine from 31 August to 4 November 2018.
You don’t want to miss LightPool Festival, when the promenade and town centre come to life with entertainment, music and spectacle. Have a look at what’s in store!
1. Carnival of Lights is back! The first ever parade of Illuminated Heritage Trams took place last year – and it was amazing! So you’ll be pleased to know that it’s back again this year – and plans are for it to be BIGGER and BRIGHTER and the organisers want YOU to join in!
2. Light Art Installations will form a trail around Blackpool once again. Watch out for all kinds of features which will light up the night sky. Some are repurposed favourites, others are pieces from big names of the art world, and yet more are by local artists.
3. Light Performance at LightPool is always amazing! Did you see the spaceship land in St John’s last year? Have you followed the Spark! drummers around town?
Watch this space for details of this years performance events. They’re what make LightPool Festival unique in the UK – most of the other Festivals of Light are based around installations.
And we’ve just got to tell you, LUMIDOGS IS BACK! It’s the Illuminations event that all pet owners love, and everyone who wants to can take part in. This year there’s going to be MORE workshops and MORE ways to join in.
4. Are you ready for Light Odyssey? This is the cornerstone event – with just a few more details to iron out the final go ahead is due any time soon and then we’ll tell you more. Let’s just say it will be spectacular, a first for Blackpool, and well worth seeing!

Illuminated Tram Parade
In 2017 Blackpool’s iconic collection of illuminated heritage trams paraded in convoy along the promenade for the first time in the tramways history.
The parade featured the battleship HMS Blackpool, the lottery funded Western Train and the Fisherman’s Friend Trawler.
The digital projection show ran throughout the three-day Festival@LightPool
Sense of Unity
Sense of Unity is a new collaboration between Worldbeaters Music and puppet company DUNDU. For the first time it brought together the high-energy sounds of Worldbeaters with illuminated puppets.
Amor by Bilbobasso
The final night of the festival saw a brand new production of ‘Amor’ by Bilbobasso.
