Blackpool is a unique seaside resort because it never feels like it goes to sleep in winter like some seaside towns do.
The summer season is a busy time of year but once the Illuminations are switched on people flock here to enjoy the sights, and October half term is actually the busiest week of the year in Blackpool.
Because the Illuminations weeks are so popular it’s also when other events are held. Starting with Ride the Lights – the huge, car free cycling spectacle, where thousands of people take to their pedal bikes to ride the promenade before the big Switch On event.
Then for the four Friday nights at the start of the Illuminations season it’s time for the Firework World Championships, when not just the promenade lights up but also the skies above the seafront.
Have a look at our great photo galleries for each of these events, and of course the Blackpool Illuminations themselves.
